By showing the reader the most vulnerable spots in her character’s lives, Suzanne Woods Fisher gains your sympathy and support. As a reader, I wanted Carrie to be happy.
As more of Daniel’s quiet strength and faith is revealed, the reader is drawn to him even as Carrie is.
Fisher’s characters have flaws and face decisions that reveal the depth of their faith in God. Her writing style is gentle yet laced with conflict and the frailties of the human soul. Mix in a bit of humor and depth of character as well as harsh reality, and you have a novel worthy of the Carol Award.
