Muslin Mystery is book three in the Patchwork Mysteries series by Guideposts.
The series focuses on the adventures of Sarah Hart, a widow who restores quilts and in the process, often finds herself with mysteries to solve. In Muslin Mystery, a former boarder asks Sarah to take a collection of individual quilted blocks and compile them into a quilt.

Vera Dodge does a great job making the characters and town come to life.

Normally this would be an easy task, however, these blocks don’t follow any pattern. When Sarah realizes each newspaper used to layer the quilt tells a story about the quilter’s family and a property dispute, her curiosity takes over. She has to uncover the history of the dispute. Additional puzzles decorate the pages, enough to keep the pages turning in this gentle mystery.

Vera Dodge does a great job making the characters and town come to life, independent of prior or future installments of the series. Her gentle pacing makes for an enjoyable read, and her writing makes the setting and characters vibrant.

Twists and turns keep the puzzle’s answer just out of reach, but each chapter pulls Sarah and the reader closer to resolution. Those who enjoy cozy mysteries will enjoy this novel and Carol Award Finalist.
