I love a good mail-order bride story, so this novella collection, Christmas Mail-Order Brides is right down my alley. One problem with these stories is that many of them have the same old, same old plot. But in this collection, there are four unique stories with believable plot twists.

Writing a well-developed story within a novella word count takes a lot of finesse, which McDonough has in abundance.

Vickie McDonough has been writing historical fiction for several years, and I’ve read most of her books. She has a good sense of the period and includes authentic touches that create a rich setting for the story. Add to that her characters and you have a fun read.

McDonough puts her characters into some sticky situations that lend themselves to a developing plot that keeps me turning those pages.
