Based on the Johnstown Flood of May 1889, Promise of Tomorrow sweeps readers to Johnstown, Pa., where record-setting rains threaten the town—and the happiness of one of the residents, Alaina Morrison.

You can’t wait to turn the page to find out what happens next.

The hero, Jack, is obsessed with making Alaina happy, but he doesn’t realize she isn’t looking for fancy homes, expensive clothing, or other material possessions. All she needs is his love and for him to be there with her. And they both need to let God unite their lives, despite their differences.

Promise of Tomorrow is an excellent historical presentation. This helps breathe reality into a story that features well-developed characters who quickly endear themselves to you, becoming good friends. You can’t wait to turn the page to find out what happens next. The minor setting details, interweaving through the characters’ stories, only enhance the read. And every character is actively involved, not just a convenient prop.

Who can forget the inspirational and love themes of this historical romance? From the start, it’s clear what Alaina wants. No wishy-washy diatribes or woeful musings with the “he loves me, he loves me not” daisy. The hero grows as well, reaching his goal and becoming a better man because of it. Growth in both lead characters makes for a perfect read.

Rather than being preachy or relying on Bible verse recitations, author S. Dionne Moore allows her characters and their story to touch your mind and heart, heightening your enjoyment. This type of novel is exactly what fans of historical inspirational romance crave. Kudos to Moore for accomplishing such a feat.
